The GCMCC booth was well received at the two United Methodist Conferences.  A number of people stopped by, had mints, chocolate, and picked up literature.  Also we picked up additions to our Legislative Alert list.

Our next scheduled conference is the Georgia Baptist Convention in Savannah, November 9-11, 2008.

If your denomination is interested in working with GCMCC, and/or has a conference/convention scheduled, contact us and we will be happy to bring our exhibit and set up a booth.  We will need to have an official contact person, so please be prepared to help us along these lines.

***

At the right on this page, see our Conference display booth.  Please visit our booth in the exhibit area when you attend of the South or North Georgia United Methodist Conference, in June,  or the Georgia Baptist Convention in November.  We invite you to pick up free literature, mints, view a video or PowerPoint, or just visit. We are collecting E-mail addresses of persons interested in our periodic newsletter.  It will keep you abreast of current and upcoming issues.

The Georgia General Assembly ended a tortuous session— mainly self-inflicted, and certainly conflicted. Some good was done, but a lot that was vital was left undone. As one Senator told me in a message, "Disagreements between the lieutenant governor and the speaker of the House of Representatives on the final day of the 2008 session of the General Assembly doomed legislation dealing with several important issues..."

Sunday sale of Alcohol, which we opposed, died for this term. The dogfighting bill, which included prohibition of gambling, was passed. Unfortunately, limousine drivers will be able to sell alcohol to their passengers. While that may keep drunk drivers off the road, it does not prevent teenagers from getting – if illegally– alcohol, and it is one more access to this drug.

We will give more detail in Issues and Action page.

...more details on Conferences and Conventions display booth;
The display booth is completely updated.  New posters include the 943 Club (see that webpage on this site,) a new Annual Georgia Day of Prayer Poster with changeable date plates, a fabulous new headliner banner with our updated logo on it, and new handouts for attendees to take home.  In addition two PowerPoint Presentations now run during the conferences.  One is from the CDC with  scientific data on the dangers of alcohol abuse.  This P Pt was presented at the Fall meeting of the American Council on Alcohol Problems.  The other P Pt presentation came through the Civil Air Patrol Chaplaincy, and it deals with the horrifying results of  methamphetamine use and abuse.  It is graphic!
